Ashley Brown's Relay For Life - Canada
Please help support me in my walk to fight cancer. On June 18, 2010, I will be participating in the Canadian Cancer Society's Relay For Life. Each year the Society holds thousands of walks across the country to raise money in the fight against cancer. We will be walking starting from 7:00pm until 7:00am the following morning. Why I relay? In 2002 my grand father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. His battle came to a sad end in early 2003 when he lost the fight. Three years later my mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer as well. This form of cancer has a very low success rate and my family was devastated. She had immediate surgery, followed by nearly a year of chemo and radiation therapies. Today my mother is cancer free and I feel extremely fortunate to have her here with me. She was able to be here for her first grand child which means the most to me. My biggest fear is knowing that I, myself, am at a high risk for the same cancer and so is my little boy. That is why I relay. Cancer is an ugly disease that touches everyone. Whoever reads this may have had cancer or likely knows someone who did. We need to stand up now and do all we can to end cancer soon. Please help me to reach my goal. Thank you! |
